Two fires that broke out within an hour of each other in the Vacaville area forced the closure of two highways on Sunday, and smoke from the flames was seen propagating in parts of the counties of Contra Costa and Alameda.
According to the Daily Republic of Fairfield, the first fire was reported around 10:10 am along part of Interstate 505 near Interstate 80, according to the Daily Republic of Fairfield.
The 505 northbound was ordered to close just south of Midway Road, near Vaca Valley Parkway, but was reopened.
Police Vacaville mentioned the fire on Twitter around 11 am but said the evacuations were not ordered.
A second fire was declared just before 11 am along Branscombe Road in Suisun town, near Highway 12, according to the Daily Republic. This fire was reported shortly before 11 am and he had jumped off the roadway, forcing Highway 12 to be closed in both directions between Highway 113 and Walters Road.
A five-engine firefighting team from the Contra Costa County Fire Department was sent on Sunday to help deal with the fire, district spokeswoman Steve Hill said.
As a result of the fire, smoke was reported to have passed through Contra Costa County and dark ash was found in Walnut Creek.
The smoke drifted so far into Contra Costa County in the south that it prompted officials of the San Ramon Little League to cancel Sunday's matches. According to the latest news, matches in Dublin and Pleasanton in the neighboring county of Alameda were continuing.
