Few properties seem better suited to typing VR than Star Wars, if only because … you know, lightsabers.
And Lucasfilm knows it. They just announced Star Wars: Vader Immortal – a three-part home experience that will be launched on Oculus just announced the Quest helmet standalone.
Alas, there is not much besides the name, a quick trailer and the launch in 2019. Lucasfilm Is Note that this will be a "story still unknown" that will run over three episodes, with the writing of the story directed by the writer David S. Goyer.
This is not the first Lucasfilm / ILM teams spent time with VR. Two years ago, they released a unique experiment called Trials of Tatooine for the HTC Vive, and they worked with The Void to create the massive and full-featured VR game called Secrets of the Empire, launched at Disneyland the year last. But the trials have been short and experimental, and Secrets requires you to be in a very specific place in the real world. This one seems to be a little more substantial and intended for a wider audience.
(* Tangent: For what it's worth, Secrets of the Empire is one of the most mind-blowing VR experiences I've ever experienced. I thought it was a bit expensive for As long as it lasted, but almost a year later, I still think how cool it was.
More information about it.
Update: Although our title initially called it a "game", ILM / Oculus takes care to call it a "series" / "experience", so we'll stick to it, for more accuracy.
