Valentina Shevchenko says Nicco Montano, injured, wanted to "escape" the fight for UFC title 228

Valentina Shevchenko will have to wait to get her hands on her second shot of the UFC.

"Bullet" was to face the UFC female flyweight champion, Nicco Montano, tomorrow night (Saturday, September 8, 2018) at UFC 228 live à la carte, inside of American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. but a bad weight cut left the champion hospitalized and forced the UFC to cancel the co-main event all together.

Fortunately for Montano, her team says that she will recover completely after battling kidney problems. That's fine, but it does not help much to undermine Shevchenko's aspirations.

The flyweight challenger blew Montano earlier today with the following Instagram post:

"I'm not surprised about the situation with Nicco," Shevchenko wrote. "And I have already said, she can withdraw from the fight at any time. She was already trying to avoid this fight several times. This is my 3rd preparation for this fight. Looks like it was his plan from the beginning, to stand for the fight week, build a name, speak confidently and safely, and then escape the fight in the last minutes.

"I do not believe in a version on health issues, she looked very good in open work and media day. His actions are totally unprofessional!

Although it is highly unlikely that Montano did anything to miss his first defense against the UFC title, it was entering the fight as a big loser of +800. She should have faced incredible odds of defeating Shevchenko and giving Bullet her first loss of 125 pounds.

For now, the two flyweights will have to officially wait to cross in the Octagon inside. Montano expected her to return to action after missing the past nine months due to a broken foot.

What do you say, maniacs? Do you think Montano deliberately avoided Shevchenko?
