(Reuters) – A vehicle hit seven pedestrians in New York on Monday, one of whom died, officials said.
New York Police spokeswoman Jessica McRorie said the driver, who was doing a high-speed reverse, was intent on hitting the pedestrians.
"The investigation is still ongoing. We will have additional information later, "said McRorie.
The driver did not attempt to leave the area of the incident in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, McRorie said.
One pedestrian was declared dead at the scene and six others were hospitalized, officials said.
