Verlander wins back to Detroit with Astros leading the Tigers 3-2

DETROIT (AP) – Justin Verlander drew a lot of encouragement and scored seven turnovers on his return to Comerica Park, while leading the Houston Astros to the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Monday night.

Verlander have eliminated 10 players in their first game in Detroit since its exchange in Houston in August 2017. The World Series Astros champion has opened a three-game lead over Oakland at the top of the West Zone.

Verlander (15-9) made his Major League debut with Detroit in 2005 and ranks in the top 10 on many of the team's career pitcher lists.

The 35-year-old right-hander received a long standing ovation after a video tribute was played as he returned from the paddock, and another when he came to warm up for the first run. Both times he flipped his cap and motioned to the crowd.

Verlander allowed two runs on six hits and a walk, improving to 98-50 at Comerica Park. Max Scherzer is second in career stage victories with 46, while Jordan Zimmermann leads the current Tigers with 14.

The Tigers put two riders in seventh, but Verlander eliminated JaCoby Jones and Jeimer Candelario to take the lead with a 3-2 lead. He received a third ovation after the run after throwing 104 shots.

Roberto Osuna worked the ninth for his 16th save, including seven with Houston.

Francisco Liriano (4-10) allowed three runs in six sets.

BREWERS 3, CUBS 2

CHICAGO (AP) – Lorenzo Cain scored four goals, Mike Moustakas scored on Carl Edwards Jr.'s throw in the sixth inning, and Milwaukee beat Chicago to settle for a NL Central leaders' match.

Wade Miley (4-2) made five effective innings before Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader and Jeremy Jeffress won for Milwaukee. Hader eliminated six batters in a row and Jeffress got three outs for his 11th win.

Back home after a soggy weekend in Washington, Chicago (83-60) lost for the fifth time in seven games.

Jon Lester (15-6) came out in the sixth with a contraction in his lower back. He allowed eight hits in his first loss since August 11.

ROCKIES 13, DIAMONDBACKS 2

DENVER (AP) – Trevor Story hit a three-run homer during a fifth round of six points, Germany's Marquez eliminated 11 points in seven innings and Colorado beat Arizona to increase their lead in the first half. 'Where is.

The Cardinals, who overcame deficits of 4-0 and 6-4, edged the Dodgers in the race for second place.

Josh Harrison, Colin Moran and Starling Marte drew for the Pirates, who had their run of five straight wins.

The Yankees increased their lead over Oakland to three games for the first wild card AL.

New York beat Minnesota nine times in a row, including last year, beating the 66-23 Twins. The Yankees have 20-4 in the last 24 meetings since July 25, 2015.

Happ (16-6) allowed six hits. Acquired from Toronto on July 26, the southpaw is 6-0 with a 2.70 ERA in eight starts for New York.

Kyle Gibson (7-13) gave a winning run in 5 2/3 innings. He was a six-shot hitter before Sanchez sent a 460-foot circuit into the third bridge in the left field.

Before that, Sanchez was 3 for 29 since its release on September 1 st.

The first eight batters from New York reached the base in a seventh-place six-point run. Miguel Andujar managed a two-run double.

BRAVES 4, GIANTS 1

ROYALS 4, SOX WHITE 3, 10 INNINGS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – White Sox reliever Jeanmar Gomez threw a goal in the tenth inning, giving Kansas City a win over Chicago.

Brian Goodwin led the 10th Royals with a double. Alcides Escobar jumped and Gomez (0-2) drew over third-baseman Yolmer Sanchez, leaving the score to Goodwin.

Jake Newberry (2-0) started a round.

Whit Merrifield captured the first pitch of the White Sox pitcher, Lucas Giolito. Ryan O'Hearn hit a solo circuit in the sixth, earning him third place. Adam Engel and Daniel Palka conceded the third goal against Jakob Junis.

Jose Abreu, activated from the list of disabled before the game, had three hits for the White Sox.
