RADFORD, Virginia (AP) – A Virginia woman is accused of giving her 10-year-old son a drug for the treatment of opiate addiction so that she could use her urine to pass a drug test.

The Roanoke Times reports that 29-year-old Katie Sowers Hinkley is accused of distributing Schedule III drug to a minor. Commonwealth attorney Jason Annis and his warrants indicate that Hinkley gave this boy Suboxone this month so that she could provide her urine during her drug testing.

Annis says that Hinkley wanted to renew his Suboxone prescription and therefore needed urine showing this drug, but no illegal substance. A search warrant indicates that the boy became ill and told the police that Hinkley had asked him to take a pill and pee in a bottle.

It is not known if Hinkley has a lawyer. She says the relationship with her boyfriend has ended since then.
