Health officials said that people could avoid mosquito bites by taking some of the following precautions:

  • Cover yourself with shoes, socks, long pants and long sleeves if you live or work in an outdoor environment where mosquitoes are present.
  • Apply an anti-mosquito on bare skin and clothing: Follow the label and spot repellents with DEET, picaridin, lemon eucalyptus oil, para -menthane-diol or IR3535. Use mosquito nets for children two months old and under.
  • Cover doors and windows with screens.
