Vontae Davis' decision to retire in the middle of Sunday's Buffalo Bills game against the Los Angeles Chargers was not favorable to some of his team-mates. Veteran linebacker Lorenzo Alexander described the move as "utterly disrespectful," and his compatriot, Rafael Bush, said it made him lose "respect for him as a man."

Davis is defended in a statement issued by the NFL published after Sunday's match and did not retreat after a few days, telling Domonique Foxworth, undefeated, that "going was therapeutic, brother".
"I left everything the league wanted me to do, playing for my teammates while being injured, the gladiator mentality, all of that jumped," said Foxworth Davis, NFL's nine-season veteran before his Short campaign in 2018.
