Each fall, the Alzheimer's Association mobilizes more than 600 communities across the country by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease.

It is the largest event in the world to raise awareness and mobilize funds for care, support, research and, eventually, to heal this terminal and progressive brain disorder.

The walk to end Alzheimer's disease in Greene / Fayette County will take place on September 22 at Wana B Park, Ceylon Road, Carmichaels. Registration for the 2-mile walk begins at 9 am with an opening ceremony at 9:45. The walk starts at 10:15.

The Washington County Walk will take place on October 6 at Wild Things Park, at one of Washington's federal buildings in Washington. Registration begins at 8:30 with an opening ceremony at 9:30. The walk starts at 10 o'clock. The length of the route is two miles.

On the day of the walk, at registration, participants will receive a Promise Garden bracelet and flower of a color that best matches their link with the disease.

  • Blue represents a person with Alzheimer's disease or dementia
  • Purple is for someone who has lost a loved one to the disease.
  • Yellow represents someone who currently supports or cares for a person with Alzheimer's disease.
  • Orange addresses all those who support the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer's.
