Walmart said it could raise product prices if the Trump administration imposed a tariff on Chinese imports, according to a letter written by the company to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer two weeks ago and seen by Reuters on Thursday.
The letter comes days after US President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on the $ 200 billion worth of Chinese goods.
Walmart, the largest retailer in the world, said in its letter that the tariff would affect the prices of all goods, from food products to beverages and personal care items.
Walmart confirmed it had sent the letter and, in a statement to Reuters, urged the two countries to find solutions.
The US Trade Representative's office was not immediately available for comment.
Earlier this week, Trump intensified his trade war with China by imposing tariffs of 10% on about $ 200 billion of Chinese imports, including consumer goods like barbecues, baggage and bags. of travel.

In its list of consumer products that may be affected by these rates, Walmart included gas barbecues, bicycles, Christmas lights and bicycles.
