More than a dozen angry public members have come out or been kicked out of the Sykes show in New Jersey on Thursday for heckling when it began with a series of jokes about President Donald Trump.
The liberal comedian began his career at the Count Basie Center for the Arts at Red Bank by making fun of how the public seems to age more quickly from stress during the Trump administration. The Asbury Park Press reported that some participants began to heckle Sykes, complaining that she was political.
"Make comedy!" a participant shouted at Skyes, depending on the point of sale. Another would have shouted, "Too political!"
A dozen participants went out and started arguing with the lobby staff. Participants who stayed at the show said that it was nice and that participants had to expect jokes at the expense of the president.
"I paid for a show of humor, not for a political hall," said Christine Delancey, of Old Bridge, at Asbury Park Press. "First of all, you are not beating our president, I am not a supporter of Trump, but he is my president and I will never hit my president."
However, other members of the audience felt that the participants should have known that they were going to attend a politically charged show while Sykes spoke of his opinions.
"You knew what you were going to be in. You should have known that it would not be pro-Trump," said Gabby Young of Brick at the chain.
The theater staff declined to comment.
