One of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s most wanted fugitives was arrested in a Church Point home.
Officials say Jose Martinez was wanted on a felony charge of taking indecent liberties with a child in Mecklenburg County, NC in November of 2002.
After he was released from criminal custody, ICE deported him to Mexico in September of 2003.
ICE officials say Martinez illegally re-entered the U.S. after removal, which is a felony act under federal law.
He was later was arrested in Acadia Parish for a DUI.
On Wednesday, Martinez was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service; he remains in custody pending his federal felony prosecution in the Western District of Louisiana.
