Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic put their rivalry aside after teaming up for the second edition of the Laver Cup.

Djokovic, who has won the last two Grand Slam tournaments to be within six minutes of Federer's record, missed the inaugural tournament last year due to an elbow injury.

He was named Federer's doubles partner on the first day of the competition in Chicago and the legends surprisingly succumbed to a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6 (6-10) loss to Jack Sock and Kevin Anderson.

During the contest, Djokovic accidentally broke a forehand in Federer's lower back, to the delight of the crowd.

Serbian legend Djokovic quickly apologized to his doubles partner and even jokingly joked in the area where Federer was hit.

Federer told Djokovic: "That's why we do not play doubles, brother!"

Djokovic then replied, "Oh my god, I think my heart stopped for three seconds!"

Djokovic then apologized to Federer:

Despite the defeat of Federer and Djokovic, Team Europe still leads 3-1 after the first day of play in Chicago.

In the opening match of the tournament, Grigor Dimitrov beat Frances Tiafoe 6-1, 6-4.

British number one Kyle Edmund then beat American Sock 6-4, 5-7, (10-6) before David Goffin outperformed Diego Schwartzman.

On the second day, Alexander Zverev, Federer and Djokovic of Team Europe will face John Isner, Nick Kyrgios and Anderson in singles before Goffin and Dimitrov join forces to face Sock and Kyrgios in doubles.
