Six teams have won their place in the 2018-19 NHL playoffs so far, but so far, none of them has been in the metropolitan division.
This could change Tuesday night, as the Washington Capitals have the chance to get a playoff spot in a very tight division. With 96 points in 76 games played, the Capitals are only one point ahead of the New York Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins and five on the fourth, Carolina Hurricanes.

The Caps can win a playoff spot Tuesday night if all three conditions are met.
- The Capitals defeated the Carolina Hurricanes.
- Montreal loses regulation in Florida.
- Columbus loses in regulation to the Islanders.
