Some things …
– One of the predominant narrative threads on Saturdays at 12:30. The clash between No. 7 Washington and No. 17 Oregon at Autzen Stadium (ABC / ESPN2) is that Washington's quarterback Jake Browning is withering under pressure from the pocket.
The Ducks have a great pass. So, this reasoning goes, all that Oregon has to do is Browning.
I think it's exaggerated for several reasons.
1) There is no quarterback in college football that is at its best in long distance situations with free passers-on.
2) The Huskies can neutralize the race by running, staying away from critical situations and abandoning the game.
3) Browning is a veteran, a competitor and a tough hombre. He can handle a match, especially if the offense against UW is balanced.
4) I think the key for the Ducks is to stuff the current UW game. If they can, everything else, including the pass rush, comes into play.
– It is assumed that there are at least nine other schools in the Pac-12 – everyone except the state of Washington – seeking to convince the Huskies to beat Oregon.
Why? As noted by Heather Dinich of ESPN.com, a win in Oregon probably hits the Pac-12 excluding consideration of the playoffs.
As for Wazzu, if Oregon beats Washington and the Cougs take care of the Ducks next week in Palouse, the Cougars are in a position to win the Pac-12 North.
– Andy Staples of SI.com wrote a great profile of Mario Cristobal, OU coach, with the Ducks outside of their mark and ahead of schedule.
I love Cristobal and the way he behaves. That said, it remains to be seen how much the Ducks are ahead.
We will have a reading this Saturday.
Austin Meek R-G writes: If the Ducks want to argue, Washington is the stick to measure and the script must be returned.
– It would be a good time for Oregon fans present at Autzen Stadium to show that they are not as classless as they appeared after losing at home against Stanford there are three weeks.
I am eager to add that this is not the case for most OU fans. But the few bad guys give the Ducks an unfortunate reputation that started long before the Stanford game.
I'm having fun with the subject here:
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to get through life – this week's edition instant judgments and low blows.
– Nebraska coach Scott Frost has become public, fearing that Oregon State will modify its program by encouraging players to leave the team.
Sheez, Nebraska is not it above that kind of moaning? Since when are Huskers worried about the competition for players with OSU? And if they are, what about Frost's direction in the program?
As if the record of victories / defeats of Nebraska did not speak so eloquently at this point.
As John O Canzano wrote: Si Nebraska is irritated by the state of Oregon, good for beavers.
More on this pane further down in the links.
OK, more links:
Larry Stone of the Seattle Times: Browning's finger resonates again in Eugene, that's why the Huskies need to get the crowd out of the match.
The Ducks have not forgotten on Browning's "point" even if they do not talk much about this week.
