Nolan Arenado, Rockies' third baseman and Rockies scorer, shared a special moment in the NL Wild Cards showdown on Tuesday.
In the middle of one of the most intense competitions of the MLB season, short-stop Cubs Javy Baez and Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado shared a special moment on Tuesday night.
When Chicago catcher Willson Contreras dribbled a routine ground ball at Arenado with two men and one end of the set, Baez, while advancing to second place, hesitated between the base balls and then gave Arenado a complete hug.
Baez was scored, but his embrace prevented Arenado from making a pitch elsewhere for the double play and kept the round alive. The referees discussed whether Baez would be controlled for interference, but was not, and the game continued.
It was a comforting time shared on the diamond, an event that occurred just hours after the MLB released a promo for the playoffs suggesting that the unwritten rules of baseball be discarded. It looks like Baez received the memo.
