Three children were beaten and killed and another seriously injured at a school bus stop in Indiana on Tuesday morning, Indiana State Police said.

The kids were beaten as they were boarding a bus near 4600 N State Road 25 in Rochester, Fulton County, police said. Rochester is located about 45 miles south of South Bend.

Police said the children were two 6-year-old twins and their 9-year-old sister. An 11-year-old boy was flown to a Fort Wayne Ind hospital. The 11-year-old boy is not related to other children.

The 24-year-old driver has been arrested at the scene and is cooperating, the police said.

The school society said in a statement: "Our school society suffered a tragedy this morning, we learned that three students died and that one student is seriously injured and flown to a Fort Wayne hospital after was hit by a vehicle while he was getting on his bus.

We have deployed all school counselors to meet the emotional needs of our staff, students and parents.

We expect more confirmed details, but want to ask the community to come together to pray for families, our students and our staff. "

The police did not immediately release the details of the incident.
