The satellite, known as Telstar 18 Vantage, is the third largest broadband satellite in the Canadian company's global fleet and the first to cover the Asia-Pacific region, which means better connectivity between Asia and the United States. Americas.

Built by the California-based SSL-based aerospace company, the new satellite will "replace and expand the capabilities of Telesat's Telstar 18 satellite," launched in 2004, SpaceX officials said in a statement.

At 15,564 pounds, the satellite is the second-largest communications satellite ever launched and is designed to last about 15 years in orbit, reports Space.com.

According to Space.com, SpaceX is expected to launch its next mission on October 7 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with the SAOCOM 1A Earth Observation Satellite of Argentina.
