Unlike Taylor, Mayfield was decisive and accurate from the pocket. His second pitch was by far his most impressive. Mayfield anticipated opening the receiver and placed a jet in a narrow window.
There were also bad games. The rookie held the ball a little too long, took a shot and spat the ball on a game. Fortunately, an offensive lineman was there to recover it. And his last attempt may have been intercepted if Morris Claiborne did not stumble when he collided with the ball.
For the most part, though, Mayfield watched the game. At the very least, it gave birth to a dormant offense.
