A video shows a Soyuz-2-1b rocket successfully taking off from the Plessetsk cosmodrome in northwestern Russia, while delivering a navigation satellite in orbit.
The launch took place on Saturday night. The rocket was equipped with the Fregat upper stage, which propelled a GLONASS-M satellite into orbit. The satellite is part of the Russian national navigation system similar to a GPS.
The rocket was able to eject all the steps and was followed by the Russian aerospace defense forces at the launch, announced the Ministry of Defense.

Previously, a similar rocket had put a military satellite into orbit. The two recent Soyuz launches come after a Soyuz-FG rocket refused to transport NASA cosmonaut Aleksey Ovchinin and Nick Hague to the International Space Station on 11 October.
