Weather in Maryland: Flash Flood Monitoring Continues as Florence Remains Move North

A flash flood watch is in effect throughout the Baltimore area on Monday as the remains of Florence move north.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected this morning, with additional showers and thunderstorms expected tonight, the National Weather Service said. About 1-2 inches of rain are expected.

The flash flood monitoring starts at 10 am and lasts late tonight, covering Carroll, Baltimore and Howard counties and the city of Baltimore. Meteorologists have said that the most stable rain could come out of the area in the afternoon, but storms will be possible in the storms.

Creeks, streams and urban areas are particularly vulnerable to flooding after one of the wettest summers in the Baltimore region, warned the weather service.

According to the Storm Prediction Center of the meteorological service, there is also a risk of isolated tornadoes crossing western Virginia and Maryland.

The remains of Florence are expected to drop the heaviest rains on Monday in southwestern Virginia, eastern West Virginia, western Maryland and throughout Pennsylvania, with more than 2 inches possible in some areas . Tuesday, the system could fall 4 inches in parts of New England, said meteorologists.

Additional rains are expected Tuesday in Maryland, as the cold front associated with the remains of Florence are shifting, forecasters said.

The tropical depression caused devastating floods in the Carolinas, killing at least 17 people.

More than one foot of rain fell on a southeastern band of North Carolina, with nearly 33.9 inches near Swansboro, in the north of the country, said the weather service.
