COLLEGE FOOTBALL

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Louisville has fired coach Bobby Petrino with two games left in a spiraling season that includes five blowout losses in which the Cardinals allowed at least 50 points.

The school told Petrino's dismissal Vince Tyra, who said he "did not have the confidence" the coach could turn things around next season. The change "needs to start happening now." Tyra said, "We're going to get back to national prominence."

Louisville (2-8) lost 54-23 at No. 13 Syracuse on Friday night, dropping to 0-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Petrino starts with a 77-35 mark in two stints with Louisville.

BASKETBALL

Jimmy Butler is headed to Philadelphia, ending the weeks-long saga of him wanting out of Minnesota.

A person with knowledge of the situation says Butler is being translated into a package that would send Dario Saric and Robert Covington to the Timberwolves. The person spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The Athletic first reported the agreement.

The trade will give Philadelphia a star, with Butler joining Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

Butler told the Timberwolves in September that it would take a deal to accept a deal. Butler averaged 21.3 points in 10 games for Minnesota this season.

MIAMI (AP) – Dwyane Wade says he's going to miss the Miami Heat, while ensuring that his wife and newborn daughter are doing well enough.

Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union-Wade, became parents of a born by a surrogate on Wednesday.

The couple and the baby are now at home in Los Angeles. The baby, whose name has been touted, was born about three weeks early. In an interview Sunday with The Associated Press, Wade says that this bonding time is the most important thing for me in my life at this time.

Wade will miss, at minimum, four games this coming week. He has also missed Miami's last three contests

HOUSTON (AP) – Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is denying a report that says Carmelo Anthony's time with the team.

Anthony, who was out for the second straight game on Sunday night with an illness, is in his first season with the Rockets after one year in Oklahoma City.

The New York Times had a sourced report on Sunday saying that Anthony has been told that he will soon be waived. When Morey said: "that's inaccurate."

BEIJING (AP) – Former BYU star Jimmer Fredette scored 75 points in a Chinese Basketball Association game Sunday, the last 40 in the fourth quarter of the Shanghai Sharks' 137-136 loss to the Beikong Fly Dragons.

Fredette was 24 of 34 from the field, going 7 of 10 from 3-point range, made 20 for 21 free throws and had eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals in 43 minutes. He set a league record with the 40-point fourth quarter.

Fredette is in his third season in China.

The Tennessean reported a witness saw a T-shirt landed on the tunnel during the third quarter of the Titans' 34-10 win over New England when cheerleaders were tossing out shirts during a timeout.

The Titans confirmed the fall in a statement.

GOLF

PHOENIX (AP) – Vijay Singh rallied from six shots behind Sunday with a 10-under 61 to win the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and deny Scott McCarron's $ 1 million annuity.

Singh's victory made Bernhard Langer a winner, too.

Langer, who's tied for 13th, captured the Schwab Cup and its $ 1 million bonus for the fifth time, and fourth time in the last four years.

Singh, who finished at 22-under 262, won for the third time this year and finished No. 4 in the Schwab Cup.

The Malibu campus will be closed thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The women's basketball game against UC Irvine on Friday will be rescheduled.

The men's water polo team was at the Golden Coast Champions Conference Friday through Sunday. The conference will announce updated plans.

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Jeffrey Earnhardt has landed a nine-race Xfinity Series deal with Joe Gibbs Racing for next season at Daytona.

Earnhardt is the 29-year-old grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt. His father is Earnhardt's eldest child, Kerry.

Earnhardt has 151 starts across NASCAR's three national series but never with competitive race teams. But his new deal with JGR is similar to one Ryan Preece made. Preece got a shot with JGR and won two races. This race has a full-time Cup ride in 2019 with JTG-Daugherty Racing.

Safarova helped the Czechs win the Fed Cup titles but is not in the current team.

Safarova said her decision was forced by health problems in recent years. She will play the singles and doubles in Melbourne.

She won seven WTA singles titles and 15 double titles, including five Grand Slams with American Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Safarova reached her highest singles ranking, No. 5, in 2015, and was ranked in the double in 2017.
