West Nile detected in another sample of mosquitoes at Cedar Park

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) – A new sample of mosquitoes caught in southwestern Cedar Park has tested positive for West Nile virus, the city said Wednesday.

The sample was taken on September 27 near Cypress Creek Road and Sun Chase Boulevard. The results of Texas health services were released Tuesday. The four samples from Cedar Park that turned positive again this year were, said the city. It traps and tests mosquitoes in six neighborhoods of the city.

This year, no West Nile case has been reported at Cedar Park, and no cases have occurred in Williamson County since 2016, according to the city. Since the beginning of the year, 66 people have contracted West Nile fever or West Nile neuroinvasive disease in Texas. Last year, in Texas, there were 135 cases of illness and six people died.

The city has been working to drain or treat stagnant water and remind people to do the same. People should also avoid mosquito bites by spraying or wearing long sleeves.
