Mosquito tests revealed for the first time this year the presence of West Nile virus in Lake County in northern Illinois

The County Health Department says that tests were carried out on mosquitoes. The tests take place about a month after authorities announced that the first mosquitoes of the state were positive in two suburbs of Cook County.

No case of virus contamination has been reported this year in Lake County. Last year, 104 lots of mosquitoes and one bird were tested positive. Since 2002, there have been 64 confirmed human cases in the county – two of which are fatal.

Most people infected with the virus have no symptoms of illness, but some develop symptoms such as high fever and nausea. Associated Press
