The estate of the British royal family is, to say the least, confusing. And, just when you think you understand, someone has a baby and everything changes again – seriously! The present monarch, Queen Elizabeth, took over the throne in 1952 and is now the oldest and oldest king or queen in British history. So impressive, no ?!
The craziest thing is that Queen Elizabeth and her lineage were not originally supposed to get on the throne so easily. In 1936, his father, King George VI, took over the crown when his older brother, King Edward VIII, abdicated. It would be as if Prince Harry and his family became the next in the line of succession if his older brother, Prince William, decided to no longer be king! Whatever the case may be, when King George VI took office, Princess Elizabeth became the presumptive heiress – and the rest literally belongs to history!
Today, the eldest of Queen Elizabeth's children, Prince Charles, is expected to take over after his death or abdication. Then Prince William, Prince George, etc. Scroll down to see the current line of succession to the British throne!
