It's inevitable. As soon as the jokers retire for the night, the annual trimming of Halloween candies begins. There are treats that always seem to make you want to eat right away … while others are reserved for next year – or even thrown in the trash.
What is thrown is often very submissive, but what a city in North Carolina holds of what it says is one of Halloween's worst sweets: these taffy treats wrapped in black waxy packaging and orange.
Most do not know them by name, but CandyStore.com, who ranked them as # 5 of Halloween's worst sweets, calls them peanut butter kisses.
Last week, the city of High Point announced on its official Facebook and Twitter pages that it officially banned the distribution of these candies on Oct. 31, stating, "Nobody likes them, do not distribute them."
The publication, which now has more than 300 comments and 700 shares, has attracted much attention nationwide … but most commentators have stated that they love this candy and would take with pleasure all the parts that nobody wanted.
Due to the growing debate, the city later responded that this post was only a joke.
For candy and candy lovers who are not so fond of this gooey delicacy (and who live in New York City), Reese offers a fun option: the Candy Exchange vending machine.
Machine users can simply swap an unwanted candy for a cup of Reese peanut butter. The machine will be outside Washington Square Park on Halloween day from 4pm to 9pm. to Halloween.
According to a recent survey conducted by Reese's, 90% of Americans say they have traded or hoped to have swapped their unwanted sweets during the sweet holiday.
So, what other candy horrors are on CandyStore.com's list of the worst Halloween sweets? For some reason, sweet corn was on the list, which sparked its own controversy among today's editors.
Actress Ellie Kemper said during the day of today that she had a habit of eating them at the bag when she was doing her homework!
Other items on the list included the tiny, waxy soda bottles filled with liquid (Kemper said they had a taste of medicine when she was trying TODAY's) and, of course, Marshmallow circus peanuts, including Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford and Kemper all agreed that it was really disgusting.
