Cheyenne, Wyo. (KGWN) – The fact of needing a kidney donation does not only concern the inhabitants of our state. It affects people around the world.
CBS NewsChannel 5 sits with a resident, Bryan Baker. He talks about the urgent need for donors, his research and the process of becoming a living donor.
Baker says, "A living donor is much better for people who need, as in my case, a kidney." He encouraged people to donate, not just to him, but in general, explaining: "What they will do, it is a great sacrifice and a great honor".
Living donation is a transplant operation between two living adults. According to UC Health, kidney donors can lead healthy, normal lives with just one kidney.
If you wish to become a donor, you must first go through the test phases. These include steps such as completing a medical history questionnaire and submitting an assessment.
According to medical experts, to qualify for a living kidney donation, you must be over the age of 18, have a blood group consistent with the patient who needs the organ and be in good medical and psychological health .
If you would like to make a donation, Bryan Baker advises you to contact UC Health. For more information and to contact: https://www.uchealth.org/services/transplant-services/living-donation/
