One of Ed Orgeron's biggest wins of the season came Tuesday night, about an hour from the lights of Tiger Stadium.
John Emery, one of the top halfbacks in the country, made a commitment to LSU on Tuesday, according to a message posted on his Twitter account.
"Proud to say I stay home, COMMITTED," Destrehan wrote. He also attached a photo of himself wearing a LSU uniform.

He reopened his hiring process last month after canceling his commitment to Georgia.
Emery has received scholarship offers from across the country, including nine from the Southeast Conference. Emery, 5-foot-11, 200-pound, is a five-star rookie and number two in the country, according to 247Sports.
Emery was initially engaged in Georgia in July, but disengaged on October 25.
"This is one of the toughest decisions I've made so far in my life," Emery wrote in the tweet after his disengagement. "I know it's going to get even tougher, and my next move can really determine my future during and after football."
It was just 12 days after Emery attended the LSU match in Baton Rouge against Georgia on October 13th. The Tigers won this match 36-16.
According to 247Sports, Emery is the # 2 scoring goal in the country, making it his most noted commitment since Leonard Fournette enlisted as # 1 in the country in 2014.
Emery joins Southern Lab's Tyrion Davis (number 8) as second runner-up to join LSU's 2019 recruiting class, giving LSU the strongest rider class in the country.
LSU's 2019 class now ranks fifth, and the Tigers have made the commitment of six of the top ten rookies in Louisiana. Orgeron and his staff are still in the battle for No. 2 rookie, defensive tackle Amite Ishmael Sopsher, and for rookie No. 7, athlete Amite Devonta Lee.
All pledges are non-binding at this stage, and high school football players from across the country will start signing national LOIs during the early signing period, December 19-21.

If both Emery and Davis sign with LSU, they will be part of a program that will lose leading striker Nick Brossette, who, at 792 yards, produced nearly half of the Tigers' match.
The sophomore Clyde Edwards-Helaire caught up with most of the half of the period, accumulating 591 yards on 128 attempts and six touchdowns.
Lanard Fournette is the second following with three litters for 13 yards.
Emery finished the regular season with 1,191 yards and 17 touchdowns in 142 carries. He had 95 yards in Destrehan's 22-0 win over Hammond on Friday night in the first round of the playoffs in the 5A class. Destrehan (10-1) will travel to Algiers on Friday to face Landry-Walker at the Behrman stadium in the second round.
Last month, Orgeron answered a question about recruiting and team needs at one of the luncheons hosted by the Greater New Orley Sports Foundation's Quarterback Club. He could not identify Emery by name but dropped a not so subtle suspicion.
"I think LSU should have the best ball in the country," said Orgeron. "That's what we're looking for, we have our goal on one, it's not far from here, we'll do our best to get the best result in the country."
Emery's commitment marks a major victory for Orgeron and his coaching staff.
Although the offense moved to a more balanced system under the offensive coordination of the first year, Steve Ensminger, the ground game was sometimes the driving force of the offensive – especially in the win against Georgia, when the Tigers had 275 yards on the ground and three touchdowns for a historic victory.
