There was a shooting on Tuesday night in Bell Tower Shops, a popular shopping destination in South Fort Myers.

The bell tower is located at the corner of US 41 (Tamiami Trail) and Daniels Parkway. The address is 13499 S Cleveland Ave.

It is described as a center of Mediterranean outdoor life and extends over 45.6 acres.

The property was purchased in 1996 by Madison Marquette, a commercial real estate company specializing in development, investment and marketing.

According to its website, Madison Marquette provides leasing and management services to a diversified portfolio of 330 assets in 24 states and manages an investment portfolio valued at more than $ 6 billion. The merged company is headquartered in Washington, DC, with a major presence in Houston.

Current retailers include the Bed, Bath & Beyond, Chico & # 39; s and Scott & Molly boutiques, restaurants like Cru and Cantina Laredo, as well as a 20-room Regal cinema and The Fresh Market grocery store.

The shopping center is being renovated. Construction began earlier this year.

In March, Whitney Livingston, Executive Vice President of Madison Marquette, told The News-Press that the goal of the renovation is to create a better experience, which means an appropriate mix of retail, dining and entertainment.

"This is the next step in the evolution of the steeple," said Livingston, who spoke at a solemn inauguration ceremony in March. "The reason for this project is to create a destination 18 hours a day."

Work is underway and is expected to last another seven to eight months, with a major reopening scheduled for next month.
