After more than 10 years at the helm of a dynasty comprising three Stanley Cups and nine play-offs, Joel Quenneville was dismissed from the Chicago Blackhawks, leaving the NHL's most successful coach out of work.
And now?
Do not expect this man with a mustache to be out of work for a long time. Despite the stagnation of things in Chicago, there are certainly a lot of teams in the league who are thinking a bit and calculating the numbers to determine how Quenneville could fit.
With his impressive resume already written for us, SI NHL staff has proposed some career options in Quenneville.
Jeremy Fuchs: Some options: St. Louis New Year; New Jersey before the trade deadline; or, to be crazy, Vancouver next year. Who better to coach two young stars in Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser?
Dan Falkenheim: Sit back and enjoy the $ 6 million that Chicago owes it again this year. After 22 seasons, 1,636 games and three Stanley Cups, it's time to relax. When the coach's enthusiasm comes back – and it will – Quenneville and the Oilers are the perfect partner for the 2019-2020 season. Todd McLellan could be unemployed if Edmonton falters and disappointed in the last part. Quenneville has been successful in training two young stars in Chicago. Quenneville is not the most brilliant quote from hockey, but it's good for some sneaky remarks that might make things easier. Recent cut.
Kristen Nelson: Quenneville and its inspiring lip foliage can do what they want now. But looking around the league, a meeting with the St. Louis Blues makes sense. Mike Yeo is apparently on the hot seat since the beginning of the season and there is enough talent in this composition to make things happen before the year is lost.
