ARLINGTON, Texas – New diet, same old disappointment.
That was the hallmark of the 2018 giants with new general manager Dave Gettleman, head coach Pat Shurmur and a series of off-season personnel changes that led a team that ranks among the top five in the NFL. Beckham Jr., Evan Engram and electrifying rookie Saquon Barkley are in a 0-2 hole.
After the 20-13 defeat on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, where many of the problems the Giants faced came to the fore, there is a lot of blame for the early-season struggles:
5) Pat Shurmur
Pat Shurmur had a hard time as an NFL coach.
From the dubious playoff, an attack that did not allow Beckham to spread to the time management issues that were disturbing since the pre-season, Shurmur struggled to set the tone early in the game. season – and his tenure – that he would like.
4) LT – Nate Solder
The Giants pledged $ 34.8 million at the Nate Solder left tackle to ensure some stability on the offensive line, and the early returns on that investment can not be what the team had in mind.
Soldier granted two sacks and was called for a retainer penalty that the Cowboys refused on Sunday night.
Over the last two weeks, Solder has often been knocked down and was not as significant as an upgrade over Flowers on the left, as the Giants probably expected.
3) RT – Ereck Flowers
The transition from Ereck Flowers to right-handed is not proceeding as expected.
After allowing 6.5 career bags last season, Flowers has already allowed two goals in the first two games of the tackle right and has been called for three combined penalties against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Dallas Cowboys.
The offensive line of the Giants does not seem to improve, and Flowers tries to be as responsible as on the left.
