James Woods, 71, an Oscar nominee, was jailed on Twitter after the social media site claimed that a tweet dating back to July was in violation of its rules.
Woods' account was suspended on Thursday because his old tweet "may be misleading in a way that could have an impact on the elections." As for the mid-term elections, Woods shared a satirical message showing men the vote of a woman "worth more".
The tweet reads: "Quite scary that there is a distinct possibility that it can be real. Unlikely, but in our day of absolute Liberal madness, it's at least a possibility, "Woods wrote. The same shows three smiling men with the words: "We make sure that a woman's vote is better (underlined) by staying at home".
Addressing the Associated Press on Sunday, Woods said he would be allowed to return to Twitter if he removed the post. He refused. "Freedom of expression is freedom of expression, it's not the version of Jack Dorsey's free speech," said Woods.
"The irony is that Twitter has accused me of affecting the political process, when in fact their ban is really blatant interference. Because now, having her voice muffled is much more disturbing than having her split vocal cords. If you want to kill my freedom of expression, put yourself in the throat and lift my throat with a knife, do not prevent me from having a pillow.
Woods is a passionate tweeter and sometimes publishes more than 10 times a day. It has 1.73 million followers. His Twitter account is still visible, Woods can not access it. He said his girlfriend shared the same message on Friday, but his Twitter account is not affected.

Twitter claims the meme is breaking its rules because it could prevent people from voting. "I wish it was about an unknown Twitter user so I could be even more passionate about it," said Woods. "It's not a muzzled celebrity. This is an American silenced – one tweet at a time.
Woods is one of the few Hollywood members to openly support Trump. Last year, he played with actor Arnie Hammer on a cinematographic plot. Hammer played a gay man in the movie 2017 Call me by your nameand his character was 24 years old and was 17 years old.
Woods is apparently offended and tweeted: "As they quietly remove the last barriers of decency".
Hammer was not happy and retaliated by saying, "Do not you have an appointment with a 19 year old when you were 60 years old?"
Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
