Why Prince Philip was not next to the Queen at the service of remembrance

Queen Elizabeth always looked chic when she attended a Remembrance Day event on Saturday that brought together many members of the royal family, but supporters of the eagle-eyed royal family could not help but notice that something was missing – her husband, Prince Philip.

Dressed in a black dress and a gray scarf elegantly wrapped around her outfit, the 92-year-old Queen went to the Royal Albert Hall's Remembrance Service Festival on Saturday, event Also present were Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

The event, which took place on the eve of Remembrance Sunday to commemorate all those who lost their lives in the war, has special significance this year as 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Although, for years, Philip has usually accompanied his wife in this type of event, the 97-year-old royal was not present, having probably stayed at Windsor Castle, where they spend most weekends.

Since his official retirement from public life last August, after 64 years of royal service, Philip's public appearances have become increasingly rare.

"The Duke of Edinburgh will no longer undertake his own program of public engagements," said the Buckingham Palace statement announcing the news. "The Captain General's parade will complete the individual program of His Royal Highness, although he may choose to attend certain events, alongside the Queen, from time to time."

Philip also chose not to attend the annual Trooping the Color parade in June.

Unfortunately, the first months of Philip's retirement were marked by health problems. In March, he ceased to attend the appointment of Prince Andrew as the new Colonel of the Grenadier Guards and abruptly canceled his passage to the traditional religious service of Maundy Parish, which he was to attend with Elizabeth.

While Philip reduced his public appearances, he accompanied his wife to the wedding of his granddaughter, Princess Eugenie, with Jack Brooksbank last month.

The two men are the last to arrive at St. George's Chapel before the bride heads down the aisle.
