Why the chance of a meeting of Colin Kaepernick-49ers is subatomic

In the end, Colin Kaepernick must follow his heart. If he needs football as much as he likes football, he should seize the best opportunity, even if it's the only opportunity. And so far, the only football opportunity that has been offered to him is that of "not at all".

But given what football has done to him recently and how much his worldview has grown outside him, I wonder why he would care about it anyway.

The name Kaepernick is back in the news, of course, grafted on the knee injury Jimmy Garoppolo who almost certainly ends his season and dramatically March that of the 49ers of San Francisco. This always happens when a quarterback breaks down, and sometimes it happens when his lawyer teases TMZ with vague hints of potential contact with teams like the New England Patriots or the Oakland Raiders.

By all accounts, the 49ers are not interested in a second round with him, preferring to use C.J. Beathard as a beginner and Billy Don OffTheStreet as a new medium. It would simply be a football decision made by coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, although it should never be assumed that politics is not there to give way to Kaepernick.

Anyway, the chance of a Kaepernick meeting in San Francisco is subatomic. And frankly, those of us who want to see if there are legally binding limits to the NFL's excessiveness should probably consider this lack of opportunity as a good thing.

On the one hand, football is no one's friend unless you are at the end of the billionaire, because Garoppolo's knee and hundreds of shock incidents on Sunday can be disputed. This is Kaepernick's absolute need for the game, which may or may not exist and to which he can only attest.

For two, his case of collusion with the league is frankly more important than his place in a clipboard and next to Shanahan until the 49ers deny him, as a less visible quarterback arrives. There would be something appalling in the fact that challenging the status quo and its naked power could be so easily neutralized and with such a small reward as to weigh against anything that presumed a risk. Cooptation, your name is backback quarterback.

Not that it will be put to the test, notice. Even though Kaepernick's protest environment did not offend Lynch and Shanahan (and we have no idea that this is true or false, as they skilfully avoided the subject), Shanahan has nothing as a coach having Kaepernick on the list. Unless he is absolutely convinced, beyond any argument, that Kaepernick is the best alternative to launch a crime, Kaepernick hardly knows it and would need weeks to learn. In the hyper-practical world in which they live, coaches also think about the reward of risk and they risk nothing on behalf of a quarterback.

Kaepernick played for bigger stakes, namely to show (or fail in his attempt) that even at its most basic level, the NFL is not a meritocracy but just another company where the market can be set for a goal agreed to men and women who are supposed to be competing.

But if they offered, and he wanted it so much, then too bad. It's after all his life, which is at the heart of what we've been talking about all this time. Its activation would energize Donald Trump and perhaps depreciate the market value of Nike (which has grown by $ 6 billion since the ad campaign), but these are all calculations that Kaepernick should do himself.

It's just that in this case, like all others to date, he will not have to do it.
