A quiet family dinner would not cut him for Will Smith's 50th birthday. Instead, the actor plunged into his next decade by jumping to the bungee of a helicopter near the Grand Canyon on Tuesday. The birthday shot was captured on a live feed from YouTube.
In the video, Smith waits in the helicopter and shakes his head just before saying, "Never look down. It was just terrible." Finally, he jumps out of the helicopter, attached to a harness and elastic ropes, while friends and family members, including his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and his children Trey Smith and Willow Smith, watch .
In the air, Smith says, "It's beautiful." He directs kisses to the camera and says, "It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life" while he's hanging over it from a gorge in northeastern Arizona.
Former Fresh Prince teammate Alfonso Ribeiro served as a guest who interviewed Smith and his family before and after the jump.
"It was terrifying," he admits. "Absolute terror to the most exhilarating thing."
The waterfall took place outside the Grand Canyon National Park, on the Navajo Nation. The AP reports that a Navajo healer gave a blessing to Smith and thanked him for visiting the reserve. The star "Bright" took advantage of the event to raise funds for charities; Donors took part in an online lottery to watch the jump in person. Profits go to the education of children in troubled countries.
