Willie Nelson's fans are angry at the singer about the announcement that he has not only supported a Democratic nominee in the Senate, but that he is leading a rally in Texas for him.

Nelson announced on his Facebook page that he would lead the Turn Out For Texas rally for candidate Beto O'Rourke, who is running against Senator Ted Cruz.

As Austin360 reported, Nelson brought O'Rourke on stage during his summer picnic concert on July 4th. He now joins Joe Ely, Carrie Rodriguez, Tameca Jones and his two sons, Lukas and Micha Nelson, at the September 29 rally.

"My wife Annie and I have met and talked with Beto and we share his concern about the direction of things," said Nelson in the press release provided at the point of sale. "Beto embodies what is special about Texas, a completely authentic energy and integrity."

Although he is clearly in favor of the Democratic candidate, Nelson's fans were surprised by the announcement of his support for a candidate they do not agree with the policy.

"If it is the case after 45 years with the foreigner with the red head, [sic] Willy, "commented a user on Facebook's announcement.

"Willie, I've always loved you and I played music on local radio when I was in high school. I've always thought you were a patriot but you skipped the shark my friend, "commented another user. "Beto O 'toole aka Commrade O' Rourke is a step too far. Let me know when you come back from your bad trip of acid. That's all. "

"I loved you – and always – but no more. It's more than sad – I'm devastated. Have you forgotten that you are in Texas? Dear God, I'm going to pray that you open your eyes. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO CANCEL THIS GIG, "wrote another passionate fan.

"I adore you for more than 40 years, you enter politics has now completed this worship. What a horribly disappointing decision you make. Beto will kill this state and all the laws of our country. DONE, "wrote another.

Until now, Nelson has not commented on the backlash.

It is interesting to note that some of his fans have taken the comments to support the singer's decision to make the front page of the rally, noting that the real fans were always aware of his political leanings. However, a more vocal majority seemed surprised and against the upcoming concert.
