Willie Nelson was the guest of Tuesday's installment of View, seated with Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and their talk show co-hosts. The brief conversation went from politics to his long-time friendship with Frank Sinatra.

Dressed in a black hoodie with "Willie's Reserve" on the back, a reference to his lineup of cannabis-related products, the 85-year-old icon seemed perplexed at the series of questions regarding his support for the Texas Democratic senatorial candidate, Beto O. Rourke, who is currently engaged in a close race with outgoing Republican President Ted Cruz. "I have supported the Democrats all my life," Nelson said. "I did not hide it so much."

Nelson, who was joined on stage by O'Rourke at the July 4 picnic of the country's legend, will be the protagonist of a free rally for O'Rourke on Sept. 29 in Austin. Behar asked the singer of his country how his support had caused negative reactions in his group of fans.

"I love the soap opera," he said. "We are not happy until they are not happy."

"Everyone has an opinion," added Nelson. "Everyone has the right to an opinion. I think I have one too.

Nelson's appearance on the talk show coincided with his newly released album, My way, which pays tribute to songs popularized by Sinatra. Nelson compared Sinatra's dominant attitude to his own, noting, "If you liked it, well; if you have not done it, it's cool.

Nelson continues to make televised rounds with an appearance Wednesday night on CBS Late show with Stephen Colbert. Earlier this week, Nelson's son, Lukas Nelson, expressed his opinion in an online video.
