CHARLOTTE, NC – Russell Wilson had 339 yards and two touchdowns and Sebastian Janikowski scored a 31-yard goal as the Seattle Seahawks took a 30-27 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
After Graham Gano missed a goal: 52 yards and it remained 1:40 at the game, the Wilson would have taken advantage, Wilson moved into the pocket until Tyler Lockett found the back of the field for a further 43 yards. .
The win puts Seattle (6 to 5) in the race for a wild card spot in the NFC, while the Panthers (6 to 5) are upset after three straight defeats and a run of 10 wins at home.
Lockett finished with five catches for 107 yards and one touchdown, while David Moore had four receptions for 103 yards and one score.
The Panthers spoiled a record performance by Christian McCaffrey, who set a franchise record 239 yards into the scrum. He had 17 runs for 125 yards and 11 catches for 114 yards, becoming the first Carolina player to exceed 100 yards in both the receiving and the race in the same game.
Cam Newton finished 25 of 30 out of a total of 256 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the end zone. He ran for 63 yards in eight races.
Wilson tied the game with 3:26 to play when he bet on a four-and-three record, passing a 35-yard touchdown pass to David Moore, who beat Corn Elder in the corner of the box goals. Panthers midfielder Donte Jackson was injured in the first scrum, which was a problem for Carolina.
Newton completed all 14 first-pass attempts for 159 yards, including a 7-yard touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel to give the Panthers a 13-10 lead at halftime. Eight of these passes went to McCaffrey, mainly to the audits.
Chris Carson got the most out of the number of races for the first-place Seahawks speed attack, with 16 passes for 55 yards and a 1-yard touchdown. He managed a remarkable 15-yard run that he nailed down – and continued to run – after being knocked down by a low tackle from Panthers safety Eric Reid.
NATIONAL ANTHEM
Reid continued to protest racial and social injustice by kneeling during the national anthem. Seattle defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson and offensive tackle Duane Brown stayed in the tunnel for the national anthem as they did the previous weeks.
