Participating veterinarians from the Essex County Veterinary Association join World Rabies Day by offering three low-cost rabies vaccination clinics.
World Rabies Day is a global campaign to prevent the spread of rabies, the deadliest disease in the world. This year's theme is Rabies: Share the Message. Save a life.
According to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, by educating and talking to others about prevention, they can all play a role in protecting people and animals from the disease. In 2017, 149 animals tested positive for rabies in Ontario.
The clinics are open to all dogs and cats aged three months and older. The animals must be in good health and not be vaccinated during the last year. Only the rabies vaccine will be offered.
Animals must be leashed or confined. The cost is $ 30 per animal, cash only.
Date: Saturday, September 29, 2018
Details of the clinic:
1. Hospital Hospital Hospital, 1345 Tecumseh Rd. West, Windsor, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
2. Harrow Animal Hospital, 110 King Street West, Harrow, 9 am to 3 pm
3. Veterinary Clinic of the City and Country, 2055 Sandwich Drive West, LaSalle, 8 am to noon
Rabies is a deadly viral disease transmitted by the saliva of an infected animal, such as a dog, a cat, a fox, a raccoon, a bat, cattle, etc.
"The law requires dog and cat owners to vaccinate their pets against rabies and vaccination of pets is an important means of preventing the spread of this disease," says Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Acting Medical Officer of Health.
