Week 4 of the college football season took a long time to end a game and close games, but the competition improved during the day.
Led by the surprising Old Dominion surprise against Virginia Tech, Texas Tech and Texas also found themselves in opacity by beating Oklahoma State and TCU respectively. The statement won by Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Stanford and West Virginia in key clashes will maintain some continuity in the polls.
Overall, the first conferences sparked interesting and significant decisions across the country.
The Heisman race, however, continues to see rocking efforts. Quarterbacks Justin Herbert, Tua Tagovailoa, Dwayne Haskins, McKenzie Milton and Will Grier continue to post huge numbers. But contenders A.J. Dillon and Drew Lock did not have a big impact on their teams in terms of the big losses.
We have all the winners and losers you need to know in the full list of games.

The self-proclaimed 2017 national champions continued to bombard their opponents when they defeated Lane Kiffin's Florida Atlantic Owls on Friday night. The Knights are 3-0 and will continue to increase in the polls. Some may doubt how they would face better competition, but they prove that they are part of the top 10 conversations.

Head Coach Josh Heupel's attack is a little less explosive in terms of throws than former UCF coach Scott Frost, but that did not stop quarterback McKenzie Milton from entering the race Heisman. He helped the Knights to retire in the second half of the 56-36 win, while he finished with 387 total yards and six touchdowns (three passages, three rushing). He was also their main hunter.

The Knights closed the Owls' passing game impressively. Chris Robison, the FAU's caller, completed half of his 26 shots for 124 yards and three interceptions. UCF yielded 36 points but made big plays when needed.

His most important stretch will come at the end of the season, when he plays at Temple, Navy and Cincinnati before ending in South Florida. The good news is that the Knights will have a field advantage in the first three contests, and only the Navy has the recipe to be a nuisance because of its pattern and consistency.

Oregon's football program has had more than its share of broken dreams and missed opportunities to claim fame over the last decade. The school had the gift of finding ways to lose crucial games. No matter whether Chip Kelly, Mark Helfrich or Willie Taggart, the Ducks made life harder on themselves at the worst time.
We can also add Mario Cristobal to this list of accursed coaches.
Instead of kneeling three times in a row from 1:41 and losing time around 10 seconds after Stanford used his timeout, Cristobal asked the Ducks to pass the ball. It almost worked, but at 51 seconds, the attacking midfielder C.J. Verdell put the ball down and the Ducks never recovered.
Oregon dominated possession time, but lost the battle of business turnover by three. They also allowed nearly eight yards per game, so it's not as if they were flawless. But they should have been able to close this one.

After appearing here earlier, Tom Herman's trio, Kevin Sumlin and Willie Taggart have triumphed.

Texas' 31-16 victory over TCU was one of the most impressive games of the week, while the Longhorns showed how much they had progressed in the first month of the season. TCU was tied with a powerful Ohio state for much of last week's game, but it was not the best team on Saturday against Texas.

Herman's Longhorns have shown a greater offensive identity since he took control of the unit. The young talents defeated Gary Patterson's Horned Frogs.

Meanwhile, both the Arizona Wildcats of Sumlin and the Taggart Florida State Seminoles took care of the business.

Sumlin still has not figured out how to use quarterback Khalil Tate in his program, with Tate having just nine goals for 152 yards this week. Surprisingly, he's only 32 yards rushing this season. But running J.J. Taylor exploded for 284 yards and two touchdowns, as the team finished with 442 yards rushing in the 35-14 victory over the Oregon State.

The Seminoles looked more like a quality team in the 37-17 win over Northern Illinois, while quarterback Deondre Francois exploded for 352 yards and two touchdowns. The Huskies had only six yards on the ground and most of their points were awarded by three FSU fumbles.

It was a necessary victory for a program that had a terrible press during Taggart's first season.

The guys, if it was not surprising that the Old Dominion (0-3) monarchs had won by two touchdowns against the Virginia Tech (13th), the numbers are even more revealing of their superiority over the Hokies.
Quarterback quarterback Monarchs were led by reserve quarterback Blake LaRussa, who entered the day with just 743 yards and four touchdowns in his career. He finished the match with 495 yards and four touchdowns in this game, including destroying the Hokies' high school with deep arched balls at Travis Fulgham and Jonathan Duhart. In addition to success, they managed to handle 130 yards on 20 carries Jeremy Cox carrier.
The complete failure of the Hokies defense aside, Justin Fuentes' passing game was also controlled. Quarterback Justin Jackson never found comfort, scoring only eight out of 16 passes before leaving the game with what appeared to be a badly injured ankle. Back Ryan Willis was not much better, also completing half of his attempts.
The loss is absolutely devastating. The Monarchs had lost to Liberty, Florida International and Charlotte by a total of 63 points before that, scoring only 55 points overall.
What started with a promising win, the Hokies season seems to have been lost on Saturday afternoon.

There was hope that the top two teams in the country, Alabama and Georgia, would be challenged on Saturday. Alabama hosted Texas A & M, and Georgia traveled to Missouri, but neither one nor the other had a lot to sweat.

Auburn beat Arkansas at home, while the LSU allowed Louisiana Tech to stay by his side while maintaining his record (4-0).

Once again, the Aggies remained in range for some time against a Top 5 team, but unlike Clemson, the Crimson Tide's talent advantage took the win 45-23. With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at the helm, their attack is too diverse as long as he is strong. Without a threatening enemy on the calendar next month, the tide will continue to roll.

For Georgia, the 43-29 win over Mizzou was about his athletes. Quarterback Jake Fromm had a great day, but the receivers won jump balls at will and must be recognized. Hardman mate, Jeremiah Holloman and Riley Ridley carried the attack each time they were called, each having at least 60 yards in the passing game.

The Tigers survived again, winning 38-21. They have a 2017 Miami Hurricanes feel to them despite their extremely talented defense. Their offensive line and wide receiver play are not consistent enough to trust, but there is no doubt that they have positioned themselves to try their luck under the conference.

The ACC had the most difficult lunch of all the conferences. Just as Boston College seemed to be a threat to challenge the Top 20 and become a competitor in the Atlantic Division behind Clemson, Purdue boosted the Eagles. The Boilermakers entered the game 0-3, but the result has not been in doubt for a long time.

Virginia hit 27-3 against Louisville in the Atlantic. The fall of the Cardinals was strong, and it is even more obvious that quarterback Lamar Jackson was badly housed. Virginia was supposed to be one of the two worst performing teams in the conference, but she outshot her opponent.

Speaking of bad teams, Larry Fedora's North Carolina made a 38-35 loss to Pittsburgh. The Tar Heels seemed to be able to start 0-8 based on their first two games, but they managed to get the best performance from semifinalist Antonio Williams (16 carries, 114 yards, 2 touchdowns) and quarterback Nathan Elliott (22nd round). 31, 313 yards, 2 TD). Meanwhile, the Panthers could not make a consistent attack.

We can not forget Wake Forest's 56-27 dismantling by Our Lady. The demonic deacons were shredded, as Irish quarterback Ian Book had all the time to throw. While the Irish were the best team to finish, Wake Forest was supposed to get by after showing enough points in the first few weeks to try to win.

The only thing that is better than blowing up a team at a power conference is getting a big salary to do it. And that's precisely what the Buffalo Bulls accomplished by hitting Rutgers 42-13 on the road. The Bulls had a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter and the cushion went up to 35-6 after two rounds.

This is not surprising for anyone who has paid attention to the MAC school. Buffalo is 4-0 for the first time since 1981 thanks to three stars – quarterback Tyree Jackson, catcher Anthony Johnson and defensive end Khalil Hodges – and a well-rounded formation. Jackson has 12 touchdowns and needs more attention as a 6'7 "double threat threat.

Buffalo set his school record for most points against a Big Ten opponent by accumulating 445 yards. He also won $ 900,000 to do it, by Keith Sargeant of NJ.com. While Rutgers embarrassed his conference with his 1 to 3 starts, the Bulls are good. They could break a New Year's bowl game if they continue at this rate.

The Big 12 suffered two major hits in its group of conference candidates and nearly lost its main CFP threat, Oklahoma. TCU's No. 17 loss to Texas hurt after the Horned Frogs proved to be a good second-tier team, even in a loss to Ohio State. But then, No. 15 Oklahoma State lost to the Texas Tech 41-17 at home.

Both teams will drop considerably in the standings. The Red Raiders' win will help coach Kliff Kingsbury maintain job security, but the Cowboys will be seen as potential participants in the discussions. If you are Mike Gundy and his team, giving Alan Bowman 397 passing yards and 121 yards to Demarcus Felton at home in prime time can not happen.

Oklahoma and West Virginia are left to fend for themselves as Big 12 spotless contenders. However, Oklahoma narrowly missed a 28-21 home win against the Army, as the Knights drained the clock to slow down quarterback Kyler Murray & Co.

One of the most popular games of the day was Notre Dame vs. Wake Forest. Despite a dominant defense, the Irish Fighting seemed vulnerable in recent weeks as the offense has stumbled several times. It took a starter injury to Brandon Wimbush for Notre Dame to finally get a dynamic quarterback game.

Junior Ian Book came and showed the demon deacons no mercy. He was electric, producing 325 passing yards and five touchdowns in his third game only with extended play time. There should be a legitimate shift controversy in South Bend.

Head Coach Brian Kelly simply had a better offensive with Book at the helm. Book's ability to find receivers and quickly pull the trigger was something that was sorely lacking. The Irish Fighting will benefit massively from a passing attack in advance, so if they decide to go with Book, make sure they get in the rankings.

There were three notable games on Friday night as the UCF Knights, Penn State Nittany Lions and USC Trojans had chalks. Nevertheless, the defensive coordinator of each of these teams must be disappointed with his unit. All three games have seen at least 75 points in total.

The Nittany Lions continued to allow their opponents to hang out until the end of the match. It did not cost them, since they reached 4-0, but the fourth quarter of 35 points in the 63-24 win over Illinois should not be repeated each week. Ohio State is next on the Penn State calendar, and it will have to put a damper on a much stronger offensive unit than that of Lovie Smith's Illini.

Meanwhile, the Knights have won, but both defenses score hemorrhagic scores. Huepel and Kiffin's fouls totaled 92 points, and the total could have been higher because the Owls made three interceptions. Neither one nor the other offense has encountered a lot of resistance.

Finally, the nightcap between the USC and Washington State had collective breaths. The USC seemed overwhelmed once again until its last push, as it knocked out Washington State with a blocked field goal with 1:41 to win for the win. 36. But leaving home-keeper Gardner Minshew's 36 points at home is far from ideal for coach Clay Helton's Trojans.

The final score for Miami and Florida International was 31-17, with the Hurricanes becoming too conservative in the second half of the match. Do not let the fact that Miami has collected 17 points in the fourth quarter, however, obscure the most important story of this contest. The emergence of N & # 39; Kosi Perry can change the outlook for the season.

Sun Sentinel journalist Christy Chirinos tweeted that head coach Mark Richt told the AMQQ that the plan was still to put Perry in the game of the third set and evaluate from there. The fact that he remained on the spot should tell all he had to know about what he thought of his essay.

Perry recorded 256 total yards and three touchdowns, hitting the tight windows of the few intermediate throws that he tried. Although Miami protects him by calling a host of screens, Perry benefits.

The overreaching limits that Malik Rosier has had should force Richt to launch Perry. In order for the Canes to realize their benefits and make noise in the ACC, they need Perry's passing ability to open up everything else to Travis Homer and Co.

Four games in the Kansas State Wildcats season, Bill Snyder's group only managed 16 points against two Power Five teams: Mississippi State and West Virginia. While the Wildcats were neglected in both events, the Snyder team was also not competitive. The good performance and reliability of the Wildcats are not at the rendezvous as they were before these key moments.

Their 35-6 defeat against WVU on Saturday revealed a non-functional attack against a mountaineers defense that is not known for its ruggedness. Apart from relying on receiver Isaiah Zuber (10 catches, 133 yards) to create everything, the Wildcats' offense can not yield any positive results.

At least the defense grabbed three interceptions, including one from Will Grier at the opening of the WVU. It is not a surprise that Grier and his plethora of weapons are too athletically gifted to slow down. However, it is still disappointing that the Wildcats seem so far from their stages.

Stanford Cardinal made a miraculous comeback by winning 38-31 overtime in Eugene, Oregon. It was not due to their game because Bryce Love was often closed again. It was the quarterback K.J. Costello, who continues to do heavy loads.
His relationship with receptors Kaden Smith and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside is special. The Ducks were at the mercy of this attack despite the fact that the Cardinal ran 32 games less than Oregon. The efficiency with which Costello helped move the ball was something invisible for a quarter of Stanford for years.
Even in a defeat, Justin Herbert was especially brilliant throughout the night. His mix of velocity and ball placement was great from start to finish. He converted several first runs by placing the bullet in windows that only existed for a brief second. He should always be in the Heisman mix despite everything that has fallen around him in this game.
It is enough to consider that in the regulation, he completed 25 of 27 passes for 331 yards, one of these incompletions being a fall, and the other a discharge pass in the rear field. Extensions were not as nice to him as Stanford's defensive backs suppressed their missions, but Herbert as well as the team could ask for it.

Few, if any, expected the Missouri Tigers to beat the mighty Georgian Bulldogs. The fact that they kept the final count in both scores is positive and they had a chance to lose a score at the end of the fourth quarter. The Tigers are expensive by allowing a return to the blocked touchdown and a return of tackle for a score.

Knowing this, most people would assume that Heisman's candidate and Tiger quarterback Drew Lock had good results, but it was more damaging than it was. The big-arm quarterback completed only 23 passes out of 48 and reacted badly to any sign of pressure. He was ransacked at a key moment in the second half and quickly thrown the ball into empty space each time a shooter began to approach.

His situation game was also a mess. His decision to start shorts in fourth decisive place, 11 minutes from the end, five minutes from the end of the match, was particularly remarkable.

Of course, that's what the Bulldogs do because they're so talented. They look like Alabama's formidable defense in 2016 which allowed the Tide to score 15 non-offensive touchdowns. But the huge Heisman and NFL issues around Lock have not been positively treated with this performance, and he faces similar talent defenses in South Carolina and Alabama on the road in the next two weeks .
