The Democrats finally whipped their nemesis with a strong exit vote operation. At the statewide, more than 2.6 million people voted, the highest turnout in a mid-term election in memory. Evers has seen a dramatic rise in the state's two largest population centers, Milwaukee and Dane Counties, home to Madison, the state capital, and home to the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin.
