IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Wisconsin has shown that the Big Ten West would go through Madison again.
Alex Hornibrook threw a 17-yard passing pass to A.J. Taylor with 57 seconds to play and the Badgers, 18th, rebounded after last week's defeat by beating Iowa 28-17 on Saturday night.
Jonathan Taylor had 113 yards rushing and Alec Ingold was 33 yards with 22 seconds left for the Badgers (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten). They also got a big lead over the Hawkeyes – perhaps their biggest threat in their quest for a third consecutive title for the West – in the league's first game.
"It was not a perfect match, but it was a great team win," said Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst. "They intensified and made games when they had to."
Wisconsin ran 88 yards in 10 games on the deciding game, and finished the race when Hornibrook found a Taylor open for his third touchdown.
Hornibrook finished 17th on 22 passes for 205 yards and his three touchdowns had a record season.
The Badgers took advantage of a short field caused by a fumble from Iowa to climb 14-10 on Hornibrook's 12-meter pass to Danny Davis. The Hawkeyes responded with Nate Stanley's second touchdown to Noah Fant, one point out, to take the score to 17-14 with a score of 1:37 in the third quarter.
Iowa (3-1, 0-1) seemed to have the Badgers pinned, but Wisconsin overcame one of the country's best defenses by winning its fifth consecutive victory in Iowa City.
Stanley had 256 yards on 14 of 23 passes, but was pulled out on a deflected ball 38 seconds from the end. Ingold then is released, making the final margin much bigger.
"They had a good blitz against us … it was only a tough game and they took advantage of it," Stanley said.

Wisconsin: Do not count Wisconsin in the playoffs yet, but after losing last week at BYU 24-21, the Badgers are still far behind. In the third and fifth half of the 88-yard Wisconsin run at the end of the fourth, Hornibrook found Garrett Groshek for a five-yard lead that allowed the Badgers to be in first place. Hornibrook found A.J. Taylor waiting for a defender from Iowa who fell three times later. "I was proud of the way the guys stayed in. We had to be to give ourselves a chance," Chryst said.

Wisconsin could gain some seats by winning the night at Kinnick stadium.

Iowa was found on the Wisconsin 5-yard line, finishing fourth and losing in the first quarter. The Hawkeyes sent Stanley on a dive, but it ended in nothing. Although it was early, the points the Hawkeyes left on the pitch came back to haunt them.
"We wanted to play that way," said Ferentz. "I'm not sure where we came from, but there was a lot of football after that."
