With Josh Allen, Bills will start recently with Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman.

The era of Nathan Peterman in Buffalo seems to be over. Bills coach Sean McDermott announced Wednesday that his veteran mate, Derek Anderson, would start the quarterback for the Bills Week 7 game against the Colts of Indianapolis.

Rookie newbie, Josh Allen, suffered an elbow injury last Sunday and will run out of time in the coming weeks, but should not need surgery. Peterman started the season as a starter from Buffalo before being quickly replaced by Allen. He was also relieved after leaving Sunday's game against the Texans.

The original plan of the Bills at the signing of Anderson was just so that he's a mentor for Allen, but after Peterman's last disastrous performance, they will quickly push Anderson into training. This makes sense because putting Peterman on the ground has become simply untenable. In six career games (three starts), Peterman has completed just 35 of 79 passes for 337 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions. He started back-to-back interceptions late in the game against Houston, including one that turned into a six-game winning streak.

Anderson knows at least McDermott (and his general manager Brandon Beane) since their shared stay in Carolina, where he served as Cam Newton's replacement for several seasons. He can at least perform a functional NFL offense, though he does not necessarily have the highest cap. Anyway, Allen seems likely to re-enter the lineup as soon as his elbow heals. It would not be a surprise if the team officially left Peterman soon after.
