Los Angeles will soon host one of the world's largest cruise ships.

The Norwegian Cruise Line's 5-month Norwegian Bliss on Friday will leave the city after a summer-only summer in Seattle.

The 4,004 passenger ship will make a series of seven- and eight-night trips between Los Angeles and the Mexican coast until early November. Trips will include stops at ports such as Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

Bliss will then make a one-week trip between Los Angeles and Miami via the Panama Canal, which will include stops in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Colombia.

At 168,028 tonnes, Bliss is the largest ship in Norway and ranks among the 10 largest cruise ships of all time. It will be the largest cruise ship ever based in Los Angeles.

Built on the German shipyard Meyer Werft, Bliss is the third vessel in the Norwegian Breakaway Plus series, which also includes the Norwegian Escape of 165,157 tonnes and the Norwegian Joy of 167,725 tonnes. The two previous ships made their debut in 2015 and 2017, respectively.

The three Breakaway Plus vessels are larger than the larger vessels operated by Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises. But they are overtaken by the largest ships of the Royal Caribbean. The largest cruise ship in the world, the Symphony of the Seas, recently unveiled by Royal Caribbean, measures 228,081 tonnes.

Designed to have all the attributes of a large resort, Bliss offers fun activities like a two-deck race course where passengers face up under electric karts – a first for a America-based ship North.

Like Joy and Escape, Bliss also has a sprawling water park with multi-story slides; a promenade lined with restaurant; Tony Award-winning production shows, including Jersey Boys; and a giant spa. Dining options include a modern Texas grill restaurant called Q that will feature live country pop music – a new concept for the line.
