Michigan Wolverines junior defensive lineman Rashan Gary announced on Monday that he would give up his senior season to qualify for the NFL draft in 2019.
Gary, a third-year player, would still have a year of eligibility after this season, but decided not to miss out on a first-round standings scheduled in the next draft. He is ranked # 8 on Mel Kiper's latest Big Board.

"I want to thank my high power, my family, the University of Michigan, the students and the fans, but I will give up my peak season to realize a dream that will come true," Gary said in a statement. .
Gary was the highest-ranked rookie to sign up with Michigan as the No. 1 candidate in the 2016 promotion – Jim Harbaugh's first complete promotion with the Wolverines. From New Jersey's Paramus Catholic High School, Gary followed his former head coach and current Michigan security forces coach, Chris Partridge, to Ann Arbor.
The decorated line player played 12 games as a Wolverines first-year player, scoring 23 tackles and 5 tackles for the first season loss. During his three-year career, Gary has totaled 136 tackles and 10 sacks.
As a pre – season American, he has only played nine games this season due to a problem in the shoulder, but his injury is not not persistent and Gary is still considered a potential candidate for the NFL. ESPN Todd McShay currently has Gary as the No. 5 prospect eligible for the next draft behind fellow defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Ed Oliver.
It's unclear whether Gary will be competing in Michigan's next basketball game.
