Woman drowns while trying to rescue swept children in the ocean

A 47-year-old woman from East Bay drowned tonight at Cowell Ranch State Beach south of Half Moon Bay. in the water there to try to save three children who were swept from the shore by a surf, said a detective from San Mateo County Sheriff.

The Sheriff's Office and the California Parks and Recreation Department were called at 7:17 pm. about drowning. San Mateo Sheriff's Inspector, Rosemerry Blankswade, said the woman, whose name had not been unveiled tonight, was taking pictures of young family members when a heap had took three children in the waves.

The woman then went to the ocean to try to save the children, but was washed away in the water herself, Blankswade said. Other family members saved the three children, but were unable to bring back the 47-year-old woman.



The woman's body was finally brought back to shore, said Blankswade, and the CPR was executed, but it could not be reinstated.

The California Department of Parks and Recreation, which oversees Cowell Ranch State Beach, is leading the investigation into the death of the woman.
