After voting in the mid-term elections on Tuesday, the women went to Susan B. Anthony's grave in Rochester, NY, to express their gratitude for her service to the women's suffrage movement. .
The proud voters put their "I Voted" stickers on Anthony's gravestone, a practice that has become a tradition on polling day. Dozens of stickers adorned his gravestone after the 2016 presidential election.
Anthony helped advance the women's suffrage movement in 1872 when she voted illegally on polling day, which led to her arrest. Nearly 50 years later, states ratified the 19th Amendment, which gives women the right to vote nationwide.
"Equality will never be complete until women themselves have helped legislate and elect lawmakers," said Anthony.
She would probably have been pleased to know that women were running for elected office in record numbers in 2018 and that female voters would be a major factor in Tuesday's mid-term elections.
