World Series 2018: Larry Bird and Magic Johnson get together (somehow) for a fun promo in Game 5

Two of the biggest icons of basketball and the best-known opponents once again clashed before Sunday's World Series game 5. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were best known for their fierce fights on the court during their days in the NBA, but they decided to add an extra chapter to the rivalry with a playful promotion before the fifth game.

Johnson and Bird were the faces of the Celtics and Lakers rivalry in the 1980s. Having them carve out a promo for a crucial World Series match between the two cities that they represented was a pretty cool experience before the first launch. Johnson, who is part owner of the Dodgers, is a bit more connected to the Los Angeles sports scene than Bird in Boston right now, but Larry Legend clearly had no problem convincing the Red Sox of this cause .

Even without Bird and Magic in uniform – or even in the same room – and without the competitive animosity they once shared, they still bring some je-ne-sais-quoi to the sporting rivalry between Boston and Los Angeles. They may be well beyond their game days, but they still made a pretty good promo.
