CRÊME PHILADELPHIA – Before the 2017 draft, Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey was found against the Eagles.
At this point, the Eagles needed a half-scorer – they had not yet LeGarrette Blount, Jay Ajayi or Corey Clement – and McCaffrey was one of the most dynamic players of all the project.
He was not qualified by the Eagles at No. 14, but by the Carolina Panthers at 8 th place. In two years, McCaffrey has become one of the most thrilling racing talents in the NFL thanks to his multi-dimensional skills. "He's definitely an explosive player," Pederson said. "Pound for Pound, a tough kid, we see him running between tackles, we see him flee, we see him lining up in space, he follows roads, he's a lost guy, it's really all that comes out of the project, if we were lucky enough to have it, that's how we used it.
"He does not come from the field," continued Pederson. "Great athlete, a person, a player we have to rely on, knows where he is going and he needs to be attacked and taken off."
So far this season, McCaffrey is the ninth among all halfbacks with 587 versatile yards and scored a touchdown.
In an alternate universe, it could have been for the Eagles.
