A brave flight of the day took a strange turn when it was foiled by the owners wielding the sword of the store.
Security images of Ashok Jewelers in Mississauga, Ontario, show four men trying to break into the store around Wednesday noon
After breaking a window with what appears to be a hammer, one of the robbers crawls to be greeted by the store owner – as well as by the owner's son and brother – who accuse him of Sword, swaying wildly.
Arjun Kumar, the store owner's son, told CTV Toronto that the decision was "impulsive at the time."
"We have to defend ourselves," he said.
In the video, the thief dives back through the window, trying to get in again before he joins three other people. They retreat to a nearby Dodge Durango and go on – successfully thwarted.
But the video from another angle shows just how lucky the defenders have been because one of the robbers draws what appears to be a handgun and pretends to try to shoot, but it seems not being able to shoot.
Police say that an investigation into the incident is underway.
Although this is the first time that Ashok Jewelers is stolen, the incident recalls an attempted robbery that took place just down the road.
In July, thieves struck the van in front of New Rana Jewelers as part of an attempted armed robbery, but were driven out when the owner seized a sword.
Although the swords apparently served as a deterrent this time, the police said they did not recommend this tactic.
"We certainly do not support violence in this particular case," Const said. Danny Marttini said. "But at the same time, we are lucky not to have been injured and everyone is still fine."
She says that in a case like this, anyone who chooses to fight an intruder can be prosecuted if their actions are considered excessive.
Back at Ashok Jewelers, things were going as usual, only a broken window was left, reminding us that something had happened.
As for the swords, the owners say they are stored safely.
